The following piece, Best of Beethoven, is a collection of Ludwig van Beethoven’s most famous themes arranged for the piano and the orchestra by Iiro Rantala and Jaakko Kuusisto. The work was created for an event held in December 2019 and hosted by the the Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany as a part of the official launch of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary year in Germany. Iiro Rantala is a Finnish jazz pianist. He studied piano in the jazz department of Sibelius Academy and classical piano at the Manhattan School of Music. He is one of the best known Finnish jazz pianists, both in Finland and abroad. Rantala is a pianist and composer with Trio Töykeät, a Finnish jazz trio.
